The uprising happened many years ago, in the early 1970’s. I reminisced the experience this past Saturday as I attended Wheaton High School’s class of 1978’s forty-fifth class reunion. I believe it was the last skirmish to ever take place where Wheaton High School students were attacked by Native American children posing as an Indian war party. Let’s review the political landscape of the early 1970’s that would lead to the unrest between the Native Americans and we the European…..
We visited a retirement home with a couple of our adult children this week. Neither Kathie nor I thought it was necessary but agreed we are at that age when those thoughts need to be entertained and explored. So we spent an enjoyable weekend in Fargo, first watching our beloved Minnesota Vikings end yet another season without capturing that coveted Super Bowl. 🙁 Then Monday at 1:00 pm we were given a tour of a very magnificent retirement facility. For…..
I’m a little exhausted as I begin this blog. You see this past weekend we celebrated our annual Paul Lake family get together. That celebration includes many activities, great food and a wide variety of beverages. Combining that with sunshine, fresh air and much laughter several days of rest are required for our bodies to recover. So while the unretired folks are toughing it out at work today I’m relaxing in my computer chair composing another blog that may get…..
I’ve lost track of the years that our family lake vacation has taken place. It seems like it’s been forever. As one looks back it has been a collage of memories starting with tiny little grandchildren growing and maturing each year until many of them have become young adults. Forty-five years ago when we purchased our 7.9 acres out in the country the acreage consisted of a cultivated field. We had the challenge of turning it into a hobby farm. So the first thing on the agenda was to plant a windbreak that would protect our house. A house that was yet a dream but hopefully would become a reality in a few years. So I contacted the Soil Conservation folks in the county and they went to work…..
The message on my iPad read, “Hi!! I have a question for you and you can absolutely say no!! What are the odds the great Mr. Mike would be willing to come out of retirement next Friday?” Do you notice the clever way of using the words “the great” just at the right time in that message? How could my ego turn down such a request? So I didn’t! Cassie sent the message as she was doing my old job…..
It’s been a busy past few weeks nurturing the family tree. Sometimes in our complex world that’s an activity that can get neglected. Thanks to our son Steve and his wife Sara we have been for able to do some nurturing at their lake home on Paul Lake near Perham, MN. It’s become a tradition that the first week in August we all gather at Steve and Sara’s lake home for some family time. That includes hours of tubing, water skiing,…..
