Back in the seventies when C.B.’s were all the rage everyone with a Citizens Band Radio had their own personal name or ‘handle’ as it was referred to. In today’s modern times the computer has taken over the job that the C.B Radio had in those earlier years. So, I’m giving myself a computer ‘handle’. Who knows this may start a new tradition for millions of computer operators. My computer ‘handle’ is going to be “Tootsie Pop”. Tootsie Pops are…..
The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the football coach taking a knee on the football field and having a heart to heart with God after each football game. As a Christian myself I was astonished that so many people would be upset by a coach praying in public. Now if he were out there distributing free beer or pornographic literature that would be a different story. The fact that players would join him because of peer pressure seemed laughable…..
For many years Kathie and I have been members of the Chautauqua Concert Association. It consists of people from our area that love musical entertainment. Throughout the year five groups come to share their musical talents with us. They come from near and far so not only do they share their music with us but often their cultures as well. The music varies from vocal soloist, honkytonk piano music, brass groups, woodwinds, stringed instruments or a combination of all of…..
It was fifty-seven years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. We were gathered around our family’s kitchen table visiting with Mr. Findlay. He was in the process of negotiating with my Dad for the purchase of our family home. Dad had been forced to sell the farm and it had become the property of the Federal Wetlands. That required that all the farm buildings had to be removed and the farm relinquished back to nature. I was…..
I received an unexpected message on Facebook from a woman which said, “Mike Larson I ran across in cleaning yesterday afternoon a ‘gift’ to son Peder; a manuscript of a book you authored with a personal note written on it how it was not accepted for publishing three times. Assuming it was a science gift? Any recall? I will sit down and read it!” Immediately I recognized what the request was referring to. So be patient as I explain how…..
I was scheduled to do an Arts in the Park in Detroit Lakes this last Sunday so I suggested to my wife Kathie, “Let’s go a day early, get a motel and see the sights in that beautiful lake country. It’ll be a mini-vacation!” Kathie readily agreed so I went on line to find us the perfect motel. We didn’t need a big fancy one with all the amenities because we would only be staying for one night and we…..
Yep, I spent another Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday marketing my new book “The First Advent” along with my other five titles. Kathie and I attended the last county fair of the Minnesota summer in the little town of Madison which resides in the county of Lac qui Parle. I’ve always thought that was an unusual name for a county and assumed it was derived from the native American language but low and behold Google tells me they are French…..
When my two brothers and sister were small it was exciting to climb into the old 49 Ford and ride into town with our folks as they tended to some business. That excursion happened occasionally during the week but for sure on Saturday night. On Saturday the car not only contained the family of six but also a can of cream and chicken eggs packed and layered in special boxes designed to transport them to the creamery so that they…..
My blogs have been limited lately and it has nothing to do with the title of this blog. I’ll get to that blog title in a minute but first I must explain my failure to produce any blogs for the last couple weeks. Kathie and I have been “teenage sitting” grandchildren, not in the Ukraine but in Mahnomen, MN. Their parents were off soaking up the sun in Jamaica while the grandparents held the fort down in the north country……
It’s been a busy past few weeks nurturing the family tree. Sometimes in our complex world that’s an activity that can get neglected. Thanks to our son Steve and his wife Sara we have been for able to do some nurturing at their lake home on Paul Lake near Perham, MN. It’s become a tradition that the first week in August we all gather at Steve and Sara’s lake home for some family time. That includes hours of tubing, water skiing,…..
