You are all familiar with Alcoholics Anonymous often referred to simply as AA. Well I’m in need of a like organization that would be referred to as PA or Politics Anonymous. I don’t believe one exists though.
I’ve been so good for so long and then yesterday I fell off the wagon! You know those political posts on Facebook they can be so cruel and degrading. I’m constantly fighting the urge to write an insult right back at them and it’s a constant struggle to refrain from such a move.
Then yesterday one popped up comparing two leaders of our country where one was described as brilliant, caring and sincere. I wonder who gave him the IQ test to check on the brilliance part? And the caring and sincerity description isn’t all that easy to diagnose either. Perhaps visiting with his family might help clarify those statements and I’m sure the person who made the post has never even spent any time with the family. Did they make the diagnosis from reading about his caring and sincerity from the National Inquirer?
On the other hand the second leader was described as stupid, sexist and a super racist pig! Again what scientific evidence allows those three adjectives to be so factually stated? When does stupid start and non-stupid disappear? What does racist even mean in today’s politics? It means the accuser doesn’t agree with the views of the said racist! The same can be said for sexist. Can you be a little bit sexist or really, really sexist?
So I did what I said I would never do. I wrote a comment and it went like this; “I’m amazed how cruel and hate-filled posts like these are. I do believe some people enjoy spreading hate like this. Do you feel superior now? Small children behave in the same way!”
Then I hit the send button and said out loud, “Crap, I did it again!”
I spent the rest of the evening cringing every time my Ipad indicated I had received a comment. Twenty-four hours have passed now and I think the worst of it is dying down. Most of the negative comments were reminders that their guy had received similar negative posts. So I guess what they were trying to insinuate was that two wrongs make a right.
Luckily my daughter was home yesterday after my ‘falling off the wagon’ and I shared my mishap with her. She came to the rescue and showed me how I can unfollow people who make annoying posts day after day and week after week.
My need for a Political Anonymous organization is not so great now after my daughter’s rescue, however, if someone reading this blog knows of such an organization do let me know. 🙂
I think I’ve made up for my insulting post from yesterday however. I’ve done something that shows how I care for both political parties. We have a Republican and a Democrat running from our local area for the Minnesota Legislature and of course they are running against each other.
So in the spirit of fair play and good sportsmanship I did something I am very proud of. Hopefully this will not cause my Facebook to explode with negative posts from upset voters who happen to drive by our house.
We live on a busy highway. (Since we live in the least populated county in Minnesota ‘busy’ might be a little bit of an exaggeration!) So I obtained a political sign from the Democrats and a political sign from the Republicans and put them at the end of our driveway side by side! Hopefully no one will torch one or both of them late at night.
I have already received a little flack from a county residence. We were at our county fair this weekend and as we were leaving a gentleman with a cane was crossing the road in front of us. I slowed allowing him time to cross the road and as we passed he shook his cane at me and shouted, “What’s with the two political signs at the end of your driveway?”
I didn’t wait around to give him an explanation! 🙂
My blogs haven’t been known to contain a moral but this one does. You see my two political signs at the end of my driveway are a reminder that both parties are of equal importance to our great country. Both should show respect and be respected.
So all you disrespectful Facebook ‘posters’ shape up!
Until next time.
